Edo State Police Arrest Two for Alleged Self-Kidnapping

The Edo State Police Command announced the arrest of Taiye Enahoro and Lucky Alabi on June 26, 2026, in connection with an alleged self-kidnapping scheme.

A statement from the Police Public Relations Officer, Eno Ikoedem, indicated that officers from the Igarra Division acted on credible intelligence to make the arrests.

Investigations revealed that the incident began on June 23, when Enahoro reportedly contacted Alabi’s relatives, falsely claiming that Alabi had been kidnapped and demanding a ransom of 4 million Naira for his release.

Both suspects have reportedly confessed to their roles in the operation. According to police, they will face charges upon the completion of the investigation.

Commissioner of Police Monday Agbonika cautioned the public against engaging in deceptive criminal activities, including staging kidnappings for extortion purposes.

“The Command reiterates its commitment to ensuring that all individuals involved in criminal acts are brought to justice,” Ikoedem stated. He also urged community members to report any suspicious activity to the authorities promptly.
