Edo State Police Recover Stolen Vehicle, Arrest Two Suspects
Operatives from the Edo State Police Command have recovered a vehicle stolen in 2024 and apprehended two suspects linked to the crime.
The Command’s Public Relations Officer, ASP Eno Ikoedem, announced the developments in a statement issued to the media on Friday, June 26, 2026, in Benin City. The suspects have been identified as Emmanuel Afolayan and Ezikiel Aguele.
The stolen vehicle, a grey Daihatsu Hijet minibus with registration number GBZ 646 YK, was intercepted on June 22, 2026, during a routine stop-and-search operation at a checkpoint along Siluko Road. The operation was conducted by officers from the Textile Mill Road Division.
According to Ikoedem, the vehicle belonged to Dr. Timothy Etinosa, who had previously entered into a hire-purchase agreement with Afolayan. However, Afolayan allegedly absconded with the vehicle in 2024, forged related documents, and sold it.
Further investigation revealed that the particulars presented by Aguele, the 46-year-old driver of the recovery vehicle, were also forged. During questioning, Aguele led officers to Afolayan’s location, resulting in his arrest and the recovery of an additional stolen vehicle.
Ikoedem stated both suspects have confessed to their involvement in the crimes and will face charges in court upon completion of the investigation.
