Former NSIPA Coordinator Appeals to President over EFCC Investigation

Former National Coordinator of the National Social Investment Programme Agency (NSIPA), Halima Shehu, has reached out to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu regarding what she alleges to be ongoing persecution by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

In a video that circulated widely on Saturday, Shehu expressed her distress, urging the President to intervene in her situation. Her plea follows her suspension in January 2024, which was related to allegations of diverting ₦17 billion in NSIPA funds.

In the emotional video, Shehu called for the release of the EFCC’s investigative report, stating, “The prolonged silence has left me in a state of uncertainty, hardship, and reputational injury. My only prayer is for closure and the immediate release of the investigative report so that the truth can be known.”

She continued, “Baba, I have been in pain ever since I publicly declared my support for you. I appeal to you as my political father to bring closure to this case. If this message gets to you, this is your daughter, Halima Shehu.”

Shehu was suspended in January 2024 alongside Betta Edu, the former Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, who is also under scrutiny for allegedly diverting ₦585.189 million into a private account. Both individuals have faced significant challenges amid the investigations.

As of nearly three years later, the EFCC has not released any reports pertaining to either Betta Edu or Halima Shehu.
