Ekiti EFCC Zonal Office will help eradicate economic, financial crimes in Nigeria – Tinubu

Tinubu Launches EFCC Zonal Office in Ekiti, Reinforcing Anti-Corruption Efforts
Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State — President Bola Tinubu expressed optimism Tuesday that the newly launched Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) Zonal Directorate Office in Ekiti State will bolster Nigeria’s campaign against corruption and economic crimes.
Tinubu made the remarks during the commissioning ceremony of the EFCC office complex, represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima. He emphasized that the establishment of this zonal office would enhance the nation’s anti-corruption framework, ensuring effective action against financial misconduct at the grassroots level.
The president highlighted the detrimental impact of corruption on public institutions and trust, stating that sustainable development requires a commitment to integrity within public systems.
During the event, Shettima commended EFCC Chairman Ola Olukoyede and the Commission’s leadership for their dedication to the anti-corruption mission. He described the new facility as a cutting-edge complex that would motivate EFCC staff to intensify their efforts against economic crimes, which he identified as significant barriers to national progress.
Addressing officers assigned to the new office, Shettima urged them to carry out their duties with professionalism and integrity. He remarked, “No nation can rise above the integrity of its public systems because development is defeated when corruption is allowed to stand between citizens and the promises of the state.”
He noted that investing in the capacity and welfare of anti-corruption agency personnel is crucial, declaring the EFCC’s role essential to both Nigeria’s economic reforms and national security. Shettima pointed out the Commission’s successes, including asset tracing that has helped fund critical social programs.
The EFCC has also seen the conviction of key figures in corruption cases, underscoring Nigeria’s resolve to combat financial misdeeds. Shettima called upon the EFCC and related agencies to maintain their momentum in the fight against corruption.
Earlier in the ceremony, Olukoyede described the commissioning as a significant step in the Commission’s development. He indicated the office would improve operational coverage for Ekiti and Ondo states, previously serviced by distant EFCC zones.
He assured citizens that the Commission’s presence should not invoke fear, but rather signal a commitment to tackling fraud, cybercrime, and illegal activities. Olukoyede urged officers to uphold their mandate with professionalism and to engage the local community in their efforts.
Ekiti State Governor Biodun Oyebanji also praised President Tinubu for supporting the establishment of the EFCC office, suggesting it would help reduce economic crimes and stimulate the state’s economy.
