Farmer found beheaded in University of Jos
Body of Farmer Found Decapitated at University of Jos
JOS, Nigeria — The University of Jos community was rocked by fear on Tuesday following the discovery of a decapitated body on farmland within the institution’s permanent site.
University officials confirmed that the deceased was not a student or staff member. He was a local farmer known for cultivating crops on the land, according to reports from the scene.
Pius Atok, a 300-level student, noted that the body was found early Tuesday morning, prompting panic among students and residents. “The body was found this morning on a farm around the university community,” Atok said. “From what we gathered, the victim was neither a student nor a member of staff.”
Agama Tangni, the university’s Chief Security Officer, confirmed the incident, stating that the victim regularly worked on the farm adjacent to the university. “I can confirm that somebody was beheaded here. He is neither a student nor a staff member of the university,” Tangni reported.
Tangni added that the victim was easily recognizable due to his frequent presence in the area each morning. He suggested that the attack may have been premeditated. “I cannot say for certain if the attackers had been watching him, but everything suggests they deliberately targeted him, killed him, severed his head, and took it away,” he noted.
The family of the deceased has been informed, and the body has been transported to Bingham University Teaching Hospital for further examination. The university management has been briefed on the situation and plans to issue an official statement through its information directorate.
