FCT Police Apprehend Suspects in Viral Video Incident
The Federal Capital Territory Police Command announced the arrest of three individuals depicted in a viral video wielding AK-47 rifles and wearing military camouflage.
The video, which surfaced on social media, showed suspected bandits equipped with weapons and walkie-talkies. Following its circulation, Commissioner of Police Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi convened a press conference in Abuja on Friday to address the matter.
Sanusi stated that he ordered a forensic analysis to trace the video’s origin after first encountering it online. He also instructed that all individuals associated with the footage be apprehended immediately.
On May 25, 2026, following digital forensic analysis and actionable intelligence, officers from the FCT Police VCRU Sector 5, along with personnel from the Zuba Division led by CSP Ogu Caleb Ikechukwu, conducted a coordinated operation at Runji Village, Zuba. The mission resulted in the capture of the three suspects identified as Umar Babangida, Adamu Yeti, and Yahaya Idris, all residents of Rijana in Kaduna State.
The investigation revealed that the suspects had previously possessed the AK-47 rifles, reportedly acquired from their gang leader known only as “Esco,” who remains at large. Additionally, the police recovered further incriminating materials, including videos and photographs from the suspects’ mobile phones, depicting them in military attire while displaying firearms.
Recovered items also included one AK-47 rifle with 30 rounds of live ammunition, eight mobile phones, two jackknives, several power banks, and additional videos and images of the suspects in military camouflage.
