FCT Police engage kidnappers in heavy gunfire, rescue four victims

Four Kidnapping Victims Rescued in Abuja

The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has successfully rescued four individuals who were abducted in a recent kidnapping incident at the Yellow House area of Mpape, Abuja.

Police Public Relations Officer SP Josephine Adeh announced the outcome in a statement on Friday. The command received a distress call on July 8, indicating that suspected kidnappers had entered the Yellow House area around 10:40 p.m., taking four residents hostage.

In response to the report, Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, CP Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, promptly dispatched members of the Command’s Anti-Kidnapping Unit, along with personnel from the Katampe and Mpape Police Divisions, as well as the 24 Police Mobile Force Squadron, to the location.

Upon their arrival, preliminary investigations revealed that the assailants had shot two victims before fleeing. The attackers had also taken four additional victims from a nearby area, forcing them through Jikoko Hills towards Ushafa Forest.

The two injured individuals were transferred to a local hospital for medical care. Tragically, one of the victims, identified only as Mr. Babangida, later succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead. The other victim, who had sustained a gunshot wound to the leg, is reported to be responding positively to medical treatment.

According to Adeh, police operatives maintained a relentless pursuit of the kidnappers from the night of the incident until July 10, 2026, when they located the suspects around 12:05 a.m. near Jikoko Hills, where they were holding the hostages.

As the police team approached, the kidnappers exchanged gunfire with officers. The operatives, demonstrating tactical superiority, successfully overwhelmed the assailants, forcing them to abandon the hostages and retreat deeper into the hills and forest in an effort to evade capture.

All four kidnapped individuals were rescued unharmed and have been reunited with their families. Efforts to apprehend the fleeing kidnappers continue, according to police officials.
