Forces working against my 2027 ambition will fail — Obi

By Vincent Ujumadu
Former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi, the presidential candidate for the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), has alleged that the Federal Government is attempting to block his participation in the 2027 presidential election. Nevertheless, he remains confident that such efforts will ultimately fail.
Obi made these comments during a speaking engagement at Madonna University in Okija, Anambra State. He acknowledged the challenges he faces in his political journey but affirmed his commitment to pursuing the presidency.
“If I were to recount what I am experiencing today, I might not be here,” Obi stated. “Everything is being done to ensure that Peter Obi won’t be on the ballot next year. But I assure you, they won’t succeed. We are determined because living without obstacles means lacking the political will to change society. It is these obstacles that bolster true leadership.”
He emphasized that overcoming difficulties is essential for achieving his goals. “The important thing is to reach my destination,” he added.
Obi also encouraged eligible Nigerians to register to vote and obtain their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), highlighting the critical role of electoral participation. “If you don’t vote, you are hurting your future,” he warned.
Regarding his presidential bid, Obi stated that his aspirations are rooted in competence rather than ethnicity. “I am contesting the presidential election not because I am an Igbo man, but because I am competent. Of all those contesting for president, I consider myself the most qualified,” he asserted.
In a direct challenge to other presidential contenders, including incumbent President Bola Tinubu, Obi called for a public debate to discuss their visions for Nigeria. “I challenge any of them to a debate about what they intend to do for this country,” he said. “I want to change Nigeria.”
