Four soldiers injured as troops survive IED blast, ambush in Borno

Four Soldiers Injured in IED Blast and Ambush in Borno State

Four soldiers sustained injuries on Saturday following an ambush and an improvised explosive device (IED) detonation while on patrol along the Damboa–Kumala–Maiduguri supply route in Borno State.

The incident was reported by security expert Zagazola Makama in a post on social media. According to Makama, the attack occurred around 11:45 a.m. on May 16, approximately nine kilometers from Kumala Junction in the Konduga Local Government Area.

Troops from the 25 Brigade were conducting a routine patrol along the strategic highway when they encountered a command-detonated IED believed to have been planted by suspected terrorists. Following the initial explosion, the soldiers faced an ambush.

Despite the attack, the troops managed to engage the assailants, although four soldiers were injured in the process.

In response to the threat, reinforcements from the brigade headquarters, along with an Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team, were dispatched to the area to secure the route and assist with ongoing operations. The EOD team later located and safely neutralized another suspected IED along the same corridor.

Security sources indicated that the troops successfully escorted 89 civilian vehicles through the area. However, 165 other vehicles were turned back to Damboa as a precaution due to the risks associated with the attack.
