Fresh machete attack heightens tension between Taraba Marshals, residents

Taraba State Marshal Accused of Assault Following Recent Controversy
TAKUM, Taraba State — Just over a week after the tragic death of 15-year-old Busang Ayuka, another alleged incident involving a member of the Taraba State Marshal has surfaced. A resident identified as Emmanuel Abonta was reportedly attacked with a cutlass during a confrontation in the Angwan Cameroon Quarters of Takum Local Government Council.
Witnesses say the altercation escalated after an argument between Abonta and the marshal, resulting in visible injuries to Abonta’s hand. He was subsequently transported to a local hospital for treatment.
Details surrounding the dispute remain unclear, and as of this report’s publication, neither the state government nor Taraba Marshal leadership has publicly commented on the incident.
This latest allegation comes amid heightened scrutiny of the Taraba Marshals following Ayuka’s death, which generated significant public outrage and demands for accountability. Residents expressed deep concern over the conduct of some marshals, particularly in light of the recent events.
Community members have called for a thorough investigation into the incident. Elder Bernard Useni emphasized the need for transparency and accountability, expressing concern over what he described as increasing misconduct among certain marshals.
“The ill-attitude of some Taraba Marshals towards ordinary citizens is becoming a serious concern,” he said. “A thorough investigation should be carried out to expose the bad eggs within the Marshal.”
Maina Uba, another community leader, suggested implementing mandatory drug screening for all recruits to the Marshal Corps. “I believe some of these young men wearing Marshal uniforms are drug addicts,” he commented. “There should be compulsory drug tests for anyone seeking recruitment into the Marshal.”
Local residents also advocated for improved training, enhanced professionalism, and stronger oversight for the Marshal Corps to mitigate the risk of future incidents involving alleged abuse by security personnel.
As investigations unfold, the community is urging authorities to approach the situation transparently, implement reforms, and work towards restoring public confidence in the Marshals.
