Gombe State University Investigates Discovery of Abandoned Newborn
GOMBE, Nigeria — Gombe State University has launched an investigation following the discovery of a day-old baby boy in the female hostel on Friday, May 15, 2026.
Napthali Hadu, the university’s Public Relations Officer, confirmed the incident in a statement, noting that authorities are working diligently to uncover the circumstances surrounding the abandonment. He assured the public that the findings of the investigation would be released in due course.
Hadu described the situation as unfortunate and emphasized the violation of university guidelines by the individual responsible. He indicated that efforts are ongoing to identify the perpetrator and impose appropriate repercussions.
“The unfortunate incident has come to my attention today,” Hadu stated. “I will provide further details as they become available.”
In the meantime, the newborn has been transported to the Federal Teaching Hospital, Gombe, for necessary medical care. The university has temporarily restricted access to the female hostel as part of the ongoing investigation.
