Edo State Governor Expresses Condolences Following Reporter’s Passing
Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo extended his condolences on the passing of Mr. Kingsley Uchegbu, a reporter with Independent Television and Radio who was assigned to the Edo State Government House. Uchegbu died on May 6, 2026, after a brief illness in Benin City.
During a condolence visit to Uchegbu’s widow, Mrs. Chineyeamara Uchegbu, in Benin City, Governor Okpebholo assured the family that the state government would provide support in the wake of the loss of their primary breadwinner. The governor was represented by his Chief of Staff, Hon. Yakubu Musa.
Prince Kassim Afegbua, the Commissioner for Information, communicated the governor’s message to Mrs. Uchegbu, emphasizing that the government aims to assist the family during this difficult time. “We can assure you that we will not leave you alone in this. We will be part and parcel of the process that will give some succor to you and your children,” he said.
Afegbua praised Uchegbu’s dedication to his profession, stating that he was a “good friend” who lived a humble life. He encouraged Mrs. Uchegbu to remain strong for the sake of her children, who will continue their father’s legacy.
Dr. Magnus Oshiogwe, a church elder from Winners Chapel representing the family, expressed gratitude for the government’s swift response. “Whatever the government can do to support this family will go a long way in easing their pain,” he added.
Until his untimely death, Kingsley Uchegbu was a staff member of Independent Television and Radio and was stationed at the Government House Press. He is survived by his wife and children, as well as an elderly mother.
