Vice President Kashim Shettima Mourns the Passing of Emir of Gumel
JIGAWA STATE—Vice President Kashim Shettima expressed condolences on Friday over the death of the Emir of Gumel, His Royal Highness Alhaji Dr. Ahmed Muhammad Sani II, calling it a significant loss for both Jigawa State and Nigeria.
During his visit to Jigawa, Shettima conveyed the sympathies of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Federal Government to the Emir’s family, the Gumel Emirate Council, Governor Umar Namadi, and the residents of the state.
Shettima reflected on the legacy of the late Emir, who passed away in Cairo, Egypt, on September 3, 2026. He noted that the Emir had ruled for nearly 46 years and had played a vital role in fostering peace, advancing education, supporting community development, and promoting national unity.
“The late Emir embodied the principles of stability and wisdom,” Shettima said. “His reign, which began on December 16, 1980, witnessed significant political and social transformations in Nigeria, yet he remained steadfast in his commitment to peace and peaceful coexistence.”
Describing the late monarch as a father and a bridge-builder, the Vice President remarked that his death has created a void in Nigeria’s history and institutional memory.
Shettima emphasized that President Tinubu valued the contributions the Emir made toward community building and social cohesion. He reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to collaborating with traditional institutions to enhance national unity and stability.
In closing, Shettima offered prayers for the deceased, asking for divine forgiveness, acceptance of good deeds, and eternal peace in Aljannah Firdaus. He also urged strength for the royal family, the Emirate, and the people of Jigawa State in coping with their loss.
