Hajja Bintu Konto: A Leader in Public Health and Humanitarian Efforts

Hajja Bintu Konto is a prominent public health expert and humanitarian leader with over 30 years of experience in healthcare delivery, community development, and humanitarian intervention. Her extensive service, particularly in conflict-affected areas of Northern Nigeria, has garnered her recognition as a unifying figure and compassionate leader.

Konto recently retired from Catholic Relief Services, where she held key leadership roles, including Community and Government Liaison Program Officer. In these positions, she facilitated high-level discussions with government bodies, traditional institutions, civil society organizations, and local communities to promote health, nutrition, water, sanitation, and humanitarian initiatives.

Throughout her career, Konto has worked in Borno, Adamawa, and Yobe States, coordinating efforts that have improved the lives of thousands, including internally displaced persons.

A trained nurse, midwife, health educator, and public health specialist, Konto holds a Master’s degree in Public Health. She has also contributed to the education of future health professionals as a lecturer in community health. Currently, she is a member of the Country Coordinating Mechanism of the Global Fund in Nigeria and serves as the national treasurer of the Civil Society for Malaria Control, Immunization, and Nutrition.

Konto’s comprehensive experience in governance engagement, humanitarian coordination, and public policy, along with her fluency in English, Hausa, Kanuri, Shuwa, Fulani, and Bura, positions her as a valuable asset to the Labour Party. As the party’s vice-presidential candidate, she aims to address the developmental challenges faced by millions of Nigerians, particularly women, children, and those in rural and insecure areas.
