I’m not Obidient, not Kwankwasiyya, I’m NDC - Seriake Dickson
Senator Seriake Dickson, the national leader of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), has publicly stated that he does not identify with either the Obidient or Kwankwasiyya political support groups. Instead, he emphasized his commitment to the NDC during an interview with Arise TV’s Prime Time on Wednesday.
“I’m not a member of Kwankwasiyya. I’m not a member of Obidient. I am NDC,” Dickson affirmed. His remarks came amid discussions about the relationship between the NDC and the support bases for its presidential and vice-presidential candidates, Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso.
While acknowledging the independent status of the Obidient and Kwankwasiyya groups, he noted their leaders are candidates for the NDC’s 2027 presidential election. “Kwankwasiyya has a right to be on its own under the constitution, and the same for the Obidient group. Their principals are our candidates,” Dickson explained.
According to Dickson, the NDC has resolved its internal matters and is now focused on its strategy to win the upcoming elections. “There are no internal battles to fight in the NDC. We have decided on candidates. The next stage of the battle is to win the election,” he said.
He encouraged all supporters and affiliated members of the various groups backing NDC candidates to prioritize campaigning rather than engaging in internal disputes. Dickson also highlighted a longstanding working relationship with Obi and Kwankwaso, indicating that they have collaborated in different political contexts over the years.
“We have been colleagues, partners, and friends, sometimes in the same camp and other times apart, but always meeting,” he stated.
Dickson reiterated that the main objective of the NDC is to secure victory in the 2027 elections, urging the different political factions supporting Obi and Kwankwaso to unite towards this common goal. “We have a partnership that is committed to winning the next elections. That is the most important thing,” he concluded.
