Insecurity: 34 family members of terrorists surrender to troops after factional clashes

Ten women, believed to be relatives of suspected terrorists, along with 24 children, surrendered to Nigerian Army troops in the Mafa Local Government Area of Borno State following violent clashes between rival terrorist factions. The group turned themselves in around 4:30 p.m. on August 19 to personnel from the 112 Task Force Battalion, which is currently engaged in operational efforts under Operation HADIN KAI and Operation DESERT SANITY V.
According to security analyst Zagazola Makama, the women, aged between 20 and 47, and the children, aged 1 to 13, fled the Dukumba terrorists’ enclave due to the outbreak of violence among competing groups in the area. The conflicts prompted them to seek refuge with military forces.
Military authorities documented the surrendered individuals as part of an effort to clarify their identities and understand their previous circumstances within the terrorist enclave.
Makama reported that while the overall situation in the region remains calm, it also carries an unpredictable nature. He noted that troop morale and operational readiness continue to be satisfactory.
