Israeli attacks on Gaza increased by 35% since Iran ceasefire: Report | Gaza News

Israeli Attacks on Gaza Increase Significantly, ACLED Reports

Israel has intensified its military actions in the Gaza Strip over the past five weeks, following a pause in coordinated bombing operations with the United States against Iran. According to a recent report by the Armed Conflict Location and Event Data Project (ACLED), Israeli attacks on Gaza rose by 35 percent in April compared to the previous month.
The Gaza Ministry of Health reported that, since the suspension of strikes against Iran on April 8, 120 Palestinians—among them eight women and 13 children—have been killed. This figure represents a 20 percent increase in fatalities compared to the preceding five-week period during which Israeli forces targeted Iran.
Lafi al-Najjar, a Palestinian who lost a son in an Israeli strike on April 28, expressed his view that the conflict persists despite official announcements of a ceasefire. “It stopped in the announcement, but in reality and on the ground, the war has not stopped,” he said. Al-Najjar’s family is currently residing in a shelter amidst the devastation of Khan Younis, Gaza’s second-largest city.
The Israeli military has not commented on the rationale behind the recent upsurge in strikes. Although a ceasefire agreement mediated by the United States and Qatar was intended to curb hostilities in Gaza, Israeli troops have maintained their presence in the region, enforcing stringent restrictions on humanitarian aid and obstructing reconstruction efforts.
Currently, Israeli forces occupy over half of Gaza, with ongoing destruction of remaining infrastructure and orders for residents to evacuate. The area is home to more than two million people, many of whom live in damaged structures or temporary tents under the de facto control of Hamas.
Since the implementation of the ceasefire, approximately 850 Palestinians have reportedly died due to Israeli attacks, while at least four Israeli soldiers have been killed by Palestinian armed groups in the same timeframe.
In addition to operations in Gaza, Israel has also begun ground incursions and air strikes in Lebanon, where fighting has continued, particularly in the southern regions, despite a separate ceasefire brokered by the U.S. last month.
