JAMB explains ‘not admitted,’ ‘admission in progress’ statuses
The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has clarified the meanings of the statuses displayed in the Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS): “Not Admitted,” “Admission in Progress,” and “Admitted.” The explanation was offered in a video released on Thursday, in which JAMB urged candidates to regularly check their CAPS for updates as the admission process continues.
Regarding the “Not Admitted” status, JAMB stated that it indicates a candidate has not yet received an admission offer, but it does not preclude the possibility of future admission. Candidates are encouraged to monitor their statuses for any changes.
The Board further elaborated on the “Admission in Progress” status, explaining that it can mean an institution has proposed a candidate for admission, but the process remains incomplete. “This means your institution’s admission officer has proposed you for admission, but is awaiting the head of institution’s recommendation,” JAMB noted.
Additionally, this status may apply if a candidate has been recommended by the head of an institution, pending approval from JAMB. However, JAMB warned candidates not to interpret this status as confirmation of admission. “Please note that ‘Admission in Progress’ does not mean automatic admission,” the Board emphasized.
