Kebbi Hisbah arrests youths for alleged mock Hajj rituals

Kebbi State Hisbah Board Apprehends Youths for Imitating Hajj Rites
ZURU, Kebbi State — The Kebbi State Hisbah Board has detained a group of youths in the Zuru Local Government Area for allegedly donning ihram garments and mimicking rituals associated with Hajj on the Day of Arafah.
The Board’s Director of Sharia, Judge Surajo Usman Kamba, disclosed the details in a statement released on Sunday, May 31, 2026. He explained that the Hisbah Board acted in response to reports indicating that the group claimed to be performing Hajj rituals similar to those observed by pilgrims in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
Following their apprehension, the youths were interrogated by officials from the Board. During this process, they were informed that Hajj is a religious obligation outlined by Allah, to be undertaken solely at specific locations and within designated time frames. Replicating these rites outside these parameters does not qualify as a valid pilgrimage.
“The youths were educated on the religious significance and requirements of Hajj and were informed that such acts are not recognized in Islamic teachings,” the statement read.
According to the Hisbah Board, the youths acknowledged their error, expressed remorse, and committed to refraining from similar activities in the future. After their pledge to adhere to appropriate conduct, the authorities released them.
The Hisbah Board emphasized the importance of seeking proper religious guidance, particularly among young people, to prevent actions that could misrepresent the tenets of Islamic worship.
