Kebbi: Police dismiss rumours of school closure over insecurity

Kebbi Police Clarify School Security Status Amid Rumors

Birnin Kebbi, Kebbi State — The Kebbi State Police Command has dispelled rumors suggesting that schools in the state have closed due to security concerns. The command described these reports as unfounded.

In a statement issued Saturday, Police Spokesperson SP Bashir Usman responded to claims of school closures, alleged kidnappings, and parents withdrawing students from classes. He emphasized that academic activities continue as planned throughout Kebbi.

Usman noted that students recently resumed their studies for the new term, and those preparing for the Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) are safely seated for their examinations at various centers in the state. He affirmed that the school calendar remains under the purview of the Ministry of Education and has not been interrupted by security issues.

To bolster security, Usman reported that law enforcement agencies are collaborating with local vigilante groups to conduct intelligence-led operations aimed at maintaining peace and safeguarding residents. He highlighted recent arrests and the neutralization of criminal elements as evidence of the effectiveness of ongoing security measures.

The spokesperson urged the community to disregard any rumors that may incite panic, reaffirming the police commitment to ensuring a safe environment for educational activities.
