Nigerian Troops Rescue Kidnap Victims in Zamfara State

Zamfara State, Nigeria — Troops from the Nigerian Army’s 1 Brigade, deployed under Counter-Terrorism Operation 6, successfully rescued three individuals who had escaped from a terrorist hideout after approximately three months in captivity.

The rescue took place on June 22, 2026, around 8:45 a.m. at the Forward Operating Base in Bagega, located in the Anka Local Government Area of Zamfara State. Counter-insurgency expert Zagazola Makama reported that the victims managed to break free from their captors before reaching out to military personnel in the vicinity.

According to Makama, military personnel promptly secured the victims and provided immediate assistance before arranging for their evacuation to receive medical attention.

The rescued individuals are currently undergoing medical evaluation and treatment due to the effects of their time in captivity. Makama confirmed that this operation is part of broader military efforts aimed at dismantling terrorist enclaves and securing the release of abducted persons in Zamfara State and other regions in North-West Nigeria.

The report indicated that military operations against terrorist and criminal groups in the area continue as authorities seek to enhance security measures.
