Kwara police bust suspected bandits logistics network, arrest key suspect

Kwara Police Disrupt Bandits’ Logistics Network, Suspect Arrested

ILORIN, Nigeria — Operatives from the Kwara State Police Command have dismantled a suspected logistics network used by bandits, resulting in the arrest of a key suspect during a significant operation led by the Violent Crime Response Unit.

The suspect was apprehended in Ilorin, the state capital, as confirmed by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Adetoun Ejire Adeyemi, on Thursday.

“Acting on credible intelligence and sustained covert surveillance, operatives identified and detained an individual whose actions are closely linked to the supply of materials intended for criminal factions operating in remote areas of the state,” Adeyemi said.

As part of the investigation, authorities recovered various items, including a substantial quantity of assorted cigarette brands and other provisions believed to support criminal activities.

Preliminary findings suggest that the suspect serves a pivotal role within a broader network that provides essential resources and assistance to bandits and their affiliates.

Photographs retrieved from the suspect’s mobile device depicted him in military camouflage while seated on a Bajaj motorcycle, further corroborating intelligence regarding his connections to criminal groups.

The police confirmed that efforts to identify and apprehend additional collaborators associated with the network are ongoing.

State Commissioner of Police Adekimi Ojo reassured residents that ongoing security measures are increasingly aimed at not only tackling armed criminals but also disrupting their logistical support, informants, and suppliers.

He emphasized the command’s commitment to hindering the resources and networks essential for the operation of criminal groups, promising continued pressure on all individuals involved in facilitating criminal activities.
