Lagos Begins Medical Screening for School Food Vendors

Lagos State Government Initiates Medical Screening Program for School Food Vendors

The Lagos State Government has launched a four-day medical screening and sensitization program for food vendors operating in public schools. The initiative aims to enhance food safety and protect the health of students throughout the state.

This program was highlighted in a post on the Lagos State Government’s official social media account on Friday. It is a collaborative effort between the Lagos State Education District I and Lagos State Health District I.

Food vendors participating in the program will undergo medical assessments and attend seminars designed to ensure adherence to health standards and promote safe food handling practices. The sessions are taking place at Government Senior College in Agege.

Dr. (Mrs.) Idowu Olufunke Oyetola, Tutor-General/Permanent Secretary of Education District I, attended the program and praised the partnership between the two districts. “The health and well-being of learners is our priority,” Oyetola said, emphasizing the importance of providing safe and hygienic meals in schools to foster a conducive learning environment.

The government has been actively working to strengthen health and safety standards in schools, focusing on preventive healthcare and raising awareness about food safety. During the sessions, health professionals educated vendors on various topics, including personal hygiene, environmental sanitation, proper food preservation techniques, and the significance of regular medical check-ups.

These sensitization sessions also allowed food vendors to engage directly with healthcare experts, gaining insights into their essential role in safeguarding students’ health. The medical screening will assess the fitness of food vendors and confirm their compliance with established health regulations before they continue providing services on school premises.

This initiative highlights the joint commitment of Education District I and Health District I to foster healthier schools, ensure safe meals for learners, and enhance collaboration among stakeholders in the education and health sectors.
