Lagos State Government Secures Convictions for Illegal Waste Dumping
LAGOS — Thirteen individuals have been convicted for offenses related to the indiscriminate dumping of refuse, following a ruling by a Magistrate Court in Bolade, Oshodi. Each defendant received a three-month prison sentence.
The announcement was made on Tuesday by Tokunbo Wahab, the Commissioner for the Ministry of Environment and Water Resources, through his official account on social media platform X.
The defendants faced charges for violating environmental sanitation laws linked to illegal waste disposal practices. All thirteen pleaded guilty to the charges.
In addition to their sentences, the court’s ruling emphasized the government’s ongoing commitment to enforcing environmental regulations and promoting a cleaner and healthier environment in Lagos State. The government’s approach reflects a broader zero-tolerance policy towards indiscriminate waste disposal.
The convicted individuals are Jamiu Abdulkareem, Nwosu Martin, Abduljamiu Wasiu, Habeeb Muhammed, Kolawole Elijah, Anum Musa, Adeniyi Jamiu, Taiwo Olaniyi, Ali Muhammed, Paul Yaya, Damilare Adebowale, Ojo Fatai, and Abah Musa.
