Lagos shuts 10 more businesses over environmental violations

LASEPA Seals Ten Businesses for Environmental Violations in Lagos

LAGOS — The Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency (LASEPA) has closed ten establishments statewide for repeated breaches of environmental regulations, including noise and air pollution, as well as the discharge of untreated wastewater.

The closures, executed on July 1, 2026, followed numerous prior warnings and abatement notices issued to the businesses, giving them ample opportunity to adhere to regulatory requirements.

The enforcement initiative aims to uphold environmental laws and safeguard public health, according to the Lagos State Government.

Among the establishments cited for violations are Granduer Meridian in Ipaja, Lasola (Spazio Bar) in Ipaja, Millennium Restaurant in Ayobo, O2 Exquisite Suites & Tower in Akowonjo, Chirozz Hotel & Suites in Egbeda, House 7 Hotel in Egbeda, House 48 in Egbeda, Exclusive Hotel in Akesan, Sabola Ventures Limited in Igando, and City International Motel in Idimu.

LASEPA reported that Sabola Ventures Limited was specifically sealed for operating without an Effluent Treatment Plant (ETP) and for discharging untreated effluent into public drainage systems. Other businesses faced penalties for persistent noise pollution and non-compliance with environmental directives.

This enforcement action follows recent closures of twelve businesses across Lagos for similar environmental offenses, including air and noise pollution and obstruction of regulatory duties.

Dr. Babatunde Ajayi, General Manager of LASEPA, emphasized the agency’s commitment to public health and environmental preservation through diligent enforcement of regulations.

“Compliance with environmental regulations is a collective responsibility,” Dr. Ajayi stated, adding that the agency will continue to enhance its monitoring and enforcement strategies against individuals and organizations that jeopardize public health and the environment.

He encouraged business owners, facility operators, and residents to engage in environmentally responsible practices, comply with regulatory standards, and collaborate with the agency in efforts to create a cleaner and more sustainable Lagos.
