Lagos Police Confirm Death of Law Student in Hostel Incident
LAGOS—The Lagos State Police Command has confirmed the death of Faith Alayande, a 23-year-old student at the Nigerian Law School, following an incident at the institution’s hostel in Victoria Island on August 7, 2026.
According to police, Alayande was found unresponsive after reportedly jumping from the rooftop of the four-story building. The matter was initially reported to law enforcement by the hostel matron.
Abimbola Adebisi, the police public relations officer, detailed that a fellow student and a relative discovered a note believed to be written by Alayande, prompting them to search for her. The search led to her being located after the fall.
“I can confirm the incident. The deceased reportedly wrote a suicide note, and before her roommate and a relative could find her, she jumped from the rooftop,” Adebisi stated.
Following the report, police officers were dispatched to the scene, and Alayande’s remains were subsequently taken to a morgue for preservation.
Security analyst Zagazola Makama, who also reported on the incident via social media platform X, mentioned that another student found Alayande’s body and notified the institution’s matron. Mrs. Igbokwe Juliana, the Chief Matron, reported the incident to the Victoria Island Police Division at approximately 6:30 a.m.
Makama noted that initial observations indicated Alayande may have fallen from the building’s rooftop, although the specific circumstances surrounding the incident, including the note’s content and authenticity, are currently under investigation.
The Lagos State Police Command has stated that inquiries into the matter are ongoing.
