Lawyer petitions IGP over alleged killing of missing activist Dadiyata

Kano Lawyer Calls for Investigation into Allegations Surrounding Activist’s Disappearance
KANO, Nigeria — Abba Hikima, a legal practitioner based in Kano, has formally requested an independent investigation from Inspector-General of Police Olatunji Rilwan Disu concerning allegations linked to the disappearance and possible murder of activist Abubakar Idris, also known as Dadiyata.
Hikima submitted his petition on May 8, 2026. He shared the document, which is directed to the Nigeria Police Force Headquarters in Abuja, on his Facebook page.
The petition references statements made by Muhammad Musa Kamarawa, a former Senior Special Assistant to ex-Zamfara State Governor Bello Matawalle. Kamarawa allegedly implicated CSP Hussaini Gimba and CSP Hassan Gimba in the events surrounding Idris’s disappearance. He reportedly claimed, “They threatened to kill me as they killed Dadiyata and Saminu S/Fada Gusau amongst others in my presence at Operations Yaki Kaduna.”
Hikima characterized the allegations as “an extremely grave matter” that requires attention from police authorities, particularly considering that Idris has been missing since August 2019. The case continues to raise significant public concern and remains unresolved.
“In instances where a citizen asserts that they witnessed a killing and directly associates it with specific police officers, there is an urgent necessity for a thorough, independent, and credible investigation into these allegations,” Hikima stated in the petition.
The lawyer further expressed that if the allegations are unfounded, a proper investigation would help exonerate the involved officers and restore community trust in the police force. Conversely, if the claims have merit, he emphasized the importance of allowing justice to prevail, regardless of the individuals’ rank or influence.
Hikima has urged the IGP to establish an independent investigative panel to examine the allegations against the two senior police officers and to make the findings public.
