Malami meets Amaechi in Abuja amid ADC political consultations
Former Attorney-General Meets ADC Vice-Presidential Candidate in Abuja
Abubakar Malami, the former Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, met with Rotimi Amaechi, the vice-presidential candidate for the African Democratic Congress (ADC), in a closed-door meeting on Friday at Amaechi’s residence in Abuja.
Details of the discussions remain unavailable as of the time of this report.
This meeting took place less than a day after Amaechi’s visit with former Sokoto State Governor Aminu Tambuwal, as the ADC continues its consultations in preparation for the 2027 general elections.
Following Thursday’s meeting, Tambuwal publicly congratulated Amaechi on his recent selection as the ADC’s vice-presidential candidate. He praised Amaechi for his extensive experience in public service and asserted that his commitment to democratic principles would enhance the party’s objectives.
“Our meeting provided another opportunity to reflect on the enormous responsibility before us as we work with other patriotic Nigerians to build a broad, united and credible platform capable of restoring hope, strengthening our democracy, and offering our people the purposeful leadership they deserve,” Tambuwal said in a statement.
Tambuwal also expressed support for a recent Federal High Court ruling that affirmed the legitimacy of the Senator David Mark-led leadership of the ADC. He characterized this decision as a victory for the rule of law, constitutional democracy, and due process.
“This judgment clears the way for the party to focus on strengthening its internal cohesion and presenting Nigerians with a credible alternative rooted in justice, inclusion, competence, and national renewal,” he added.
Amaechi was recently selected as the running mate to the ADC’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, for the upcoming election.
The ADC has formally submitted the names of Atiku and Amaechi to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) nomination portal ahead of the 2027 elections.
