Osun State Governorship Election Results Announced
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially declared Ademola Adeleke, the incumbent governor of Osun State and candidate of the Accord Party, as the victor of the recent governorship election. Adeleke garnered 511,067 votes, surpassing his closest rival, Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who received 444,815 votes.
Professor Joshua Olalekan Ogunwole, the returning officer, announced the results on Sunday following the completion of the collation across all 30 local government areas of the state. Najeem Salaam, the candidate from the African Democratic Congress (ADC), placed third with 17,180 votes.

Vote Counting and Security Incidents
The counting of votes and collation of results faced interruptions, including an incident where armed assailants disrupted proceedings at a collation center in Osogbo, firing shots to scatter officials and bystanders.
Both the APC candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, and Governor Adeleke called for vigilance among their supporters during the result collation process. Adeleke urged President Bola Tinubu to ensure the protection of electoral institutions and the integrity of the ongoing collation, expressing concerns over alleged attempts to disrupt the process.
Meanwhile, concerns were raised regarding delays in the uploading of polling-unit results to the INEC’s Result Viewing Portal. After an initial stall, uploading resumed, with the number of uploaded results increasing to 3,482 out of a total of 3,763 polling units as of 11:42 p.m.

Observers noted that the election was generally peaceful, despite isolated cases of intimidation and vote-buying allegations. Shina Loremikan, an election observer, remarked on the relative calm during the election day proceedings in Osun State.
Prominent public figures, including Afrobeats artist Zuma Odell, took to social media to voice concerns regarding the conduct of the election, questioning the timeliness of vote uploads and the transparency of the electoral process.
Voters across various constituencies demonstrated a commitment to participating in their democratic rights, as illustrated by the significant turnout in Ede, Adeleke’s hometown. Voters of all ages queued long before polling opened to ensure their voices were heard.
