Military air strikes kill several suspected terrorists in Zamfara

The Nigerian military conducted air strikes on the Yankuzo community in the Tsafe Local Government Area of Zamfara State on Monday evening, resulting in the deaths of several suspected terrorists. The operation was part of a broader initiative named Operation Fansan Yanma, according to reports from the counter-insurgency publication Zagazola Makama.
Five military aircraft participated in the operation, targeting individuals believed to be involved in terrorist activities. While local sources indicated that multiple fighters were killed, the exact number of casualties has not been confirmed.
Among those reported deceased was Isiya Gurgu, who was described as a close associate of Musa Commander, a notorious bandit leader associated with the Ado Aleru network. This network has ties to several communities in the region, including Tsamiya.
Sources further noted that security forces appeared to have exercised caution during the operation to minimize civilian casualties, focusing their engagement on individuals carrying weapons or dressed in military-style uniforms. Reports also indicate that several other suspected terrorists sustained injuries during the air strikes.
Yankuzo is considered a stronghold for armed groups linked to the Ado Aleru network, and residents in the area have faced ongoing threats from these groups.
