Militias Set Homes Ablaze During Retreat in Plateau State
MANGU, Plateau State — Suspected militia members set several houses on fire during their retreat from military forces in the Manja community on Thursday. The incident occurred at approximately 4:45 PM, following an attempted attack on the area, according to security analyst Zagazola Makama.
Troops from Sector 8 of Operation Enduring Peace (OPEP) were alerted to the militia’s movements and deployed to intercept the attackers. Upon spotting the soldiers, the militants opened fire, which prompted an immediate engagement from the troops.
The military’s response successfully drove the assailants into nearby forests. During their withdrawal, however, the perpetrators allegedly ignited several homes on the outskirts of the community.
After securing the area, the troops returned to their base, while local authorities began assessing the extent of the damage from the fire. Security personnel are maintaining a heightened presence in the region as investigations continue and efforts are made to apprehend the fleeing assailants.
Makama noted the quick response of the troops, stating, “On sighting the troops, the assailants opened fire, prompting the troops to immediately engage them.” Further updates are expected as the situation develops.
