Ghanaian Singer Shatta Wale Critiques Local Entertainment Industry
Ghanaian musician Shatta Wale has expressed concern regarding the perceived lack of appreciation for local entertainers by Ghanaians, particularly when compared to the recognition received by their Nigerian counterparts.
In a recent appearance on The Honest Bunch Podcast, Shatta Wale highlighted the financial struggles faced by artists in Ghana, stating that many earn “pennies” despite their fame. He shared his own experiences, recalling a time when he relied on taxis for transportation to performances and was temporarily housed by his girlfriend while facing financial difficulties.
“Nigerians appreciate success; Ghana doesn’t appreciate success,” Shatta Wale remarked. “At one point, I was sleeping on the street despite my status as a well-known artist in Ghana. Even then, I had to take taxis to get to shows, a situation that affects many Ghanaian artists.”
He urged his fellow performers to draw inspiration from the Nigerian music industry, advocating for higher standards within Ghana’s entertainment sector.
