‘My mum started quoting Bible’ — Shank sparks debate after tattoo confession

Nigerian Content Creator Sparks Debate Over Tattoos and Family Dynamics

Popular Nigerian content creator Shank has ignited discussions online after sharing a personal conflict with his mother regarding tattoos, coinciding with the announcement of his latest body ink related to his “Lit Gang” identity.

In a viral video released on his social media platforms, Shank recounted a deeply personal moment when he tattooed his mother’s name, “Oluremi,” on his arm. The experience, which he anticipated would be emotional, took an unexpected turn.

“The day I tattooed my mum’s name on my arm, she started crying and quoting the Bible,” Shank stated. He described his mother’s strong opposition to the act, which was rooted in her religious beliefs. She expressed her disapproval, advising him against marking his body.

“She told me, ‘Did I ask you to draw my name? I don’t like it. Don’t do tattoos again. God said don’t mark your body,’” he recounted.

In response, Shank challenged his mother’s viewpoint, highlighting what he considered a contradiction in her reasoning. “I asked her, if you say I should leave my body the way God created it, why do you shave your hair? You that shave hair and me that draw tattoos, we are committing the same sin,” he explained.

Shank used the moment to offer advice to young people facing similar familial situations, emphasizing the importance of independence in making personal decisions. “Just make sure you’re independent before doing what your parents are not comfortable with,” he advised.

Alongside this discussion, Shank revealed a new tattoo on his back featuring the inscription “Lit Gang,” further provoking reactions from his followers.

Responses from social media users have been mixed. Some voiced support for his argument advocating personal choice and self-expression, while others aligned with his mother’s concerns related to cultural and religious beliefs regarding body markings. This ongoing conversation underscores the growing tension between traditional values and contemporary youth culture within Nigeria’s entertainment sector.
