Nine ISWAP fighters reportedly die in cholera outbreak in Borno

A cholera outbreak has claimed the lives of nine fighters from the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) in the Timbuktu Triangle, a known stronghold for the group in Borno State, according to intelligence sources.

Security analyst Zagazola Makama reported on X, citing security officials who indicated that the disease has spread across multiple ISWAP enclaves in the region. This situation highlights the deteriorating sanitary conditions and limited access to medical care within the insurgents’ camps.

Intelligence sources reveal that two additional ISWAP fighters infected with the disease were executed by their comrades after attempts to manage their illness in Kimba village were unsuccessful.

Sources indicate that the outbreak reflects the declining health conditions within the terrorist camps, where ongoing military operations have disrupted logistics, including access to medical supplies and treatment facilities.

The officials noted that commanders have been advised to intensify efforts to intercept medical supplies and pharmaceutical products believed to be intended for ISWAP camps, aiming to further undermine the group’s treatment capabilities and operational sustainability.
