Nollywood legend Pete Edochie reveals his favourite Nigerian politician
Veteran Nollywood actor Pete Edochie has expressed his admiration for Chief Obafemi Awolowo, calling him his favorite Nigerian politician. Edochie made the remarks during a recent episode of “Curiosity Made Me Ask,” a show hosted by content creator BaeU.
In his comments, Edochie highlighted Awolowo’s significant contributions to Nigeria, noting that he was instrumental in launching the first television station in the country and introducing free primary education. Edochie lamented that, despite these achievements, Awolowo never won a presidential election.
“I am not into politics, but if you ask me who my favorite politician is, I will tell you it is Obafemi Awolowo. He was transparent about his plans and funding,” Edochie stated. He commended Awolowo for his foresight, recalling that the introduction of television in Nigeria occurred in 1959, a notable milestone as it made Nigeria the first country in Africa to have a television station. Edochie further noted that the Eastern region began using television in 1960.
“Awolowo brought television to Nigeria in 1959, and he also introduced free primary education,” Edochie added. “Regrettably, he never became president.”
