Notorious bandit, Auta Yankuzo posts cash obtained from kidnap ransom on TikTok

Bandit Posts Alleged Ransom Cash on TikTok

Auta Yankuzo, a known bandit, has reportedly shared an image on TikTok displaying a significant amount of cash that he claims is linked to kidnapping ransom payments.

Conflict journalist Bakatsine made this assertion in a post on X on Wednesday, stating that the image was uploaded to Yankuzo’s TikTok account on Tuesday.

“Bandits TikToker Auta Yankuzo has posted a ransom payment on his account yesterday. The picture appears to be from a previous payment as the ground looks too dry to be of recent days,” Bakatsine noted.

Bakatsine, recognized for his coverage of conflict and insecurity in Nigeria’s North-Western region, indicated that while the image was shared recently, it may have been captured during an earlier ransom payment.

This incident adds to ongoing concerns regarding the presence of armed bandit groups on social media. Recently, videos have emerged showing armed individuals displaying large sums of cash, allegedly obtained from ransom activities, raising alarms about the deteriorating security situation in Nigeria.

Kidnapping for ransom continues to pose a significant security challenge in Nigeria, particularly in the North-West and parts of the North-Central region, where armed groups frequently target communities, travelers, schools, and farmers.

Despite ongoing military operations aimed at dismantling these criminal factions, reports of attacks and abductions persist across several states.
