NSCDC Arrests Scrap Dealer in Edo State Following Recovery of Stolen School Property

BENIN CITY, Nigeria — The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Edo State Command announced the arrest of a scrap dealer after recovering stolen school property in Benin.

In a statement issued Sunday, Public Relations Officer CSC Ogbebor Efosa detailed the events that unfolded on June 25, 2026. A combined team consisting of the Edo State Scrap Monitoring Team, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Education, and NSCDC personnel conducting a routine monitoring exercise in Oredo Local Government Area uncovered extensive vandalism at Oriohhene Primary School in Bolehole.

During their assessment, the team found that classroom chairs, air-conditioning units, and roofing sheets had been stolen, and parts of the school’s roof had been vandalized.

Subsequently, the monitoring team targeted a scrap yard located at 40 Evbienwen Street in Iyaro, where they recovered the vandalized roofing sheets and other items believed to have been taken from public schools.

The primary suspect, identified as 61-year-old Aniemeka Hilary from Aniocha North Local Government Area in Delta State, was arrested in connection with the stolen goods. According to the statement, Hilary expressed regret and admitted to purchasing the items from unidentified individuals.

NSCDC State Commandant Akintayo Saidi Ayinla condemned the actions of vandals and urged scrap dealers across the state to refrain from engaging with such criminal activities. “Any individual found aiding, abetting, or benefiting from the destruction of government property will face the full wrath of the law,” Ayinla warned.
