NSCDC arrests three suspected internet fraudsters over alleged N7m scam in Edo

Operatives from the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Edo State have arrested three individuals suspected of perpetrating an internet fraud scheme involving approximately 7 million naira.

The suspects—Peter Odion, 21; Anthony Ernest, 20; and Destiny Saturday, 20—all hail from Ebele in the Igueben Local Government Area. They are accused of defrauding a Nigerian resident in Italy.

Akintayo Saidi Ayinla, the commandant of the Edo State NSCDC, reported that the suspects allegedly made contact with the victim on Facebook, using a photograph of a woman. One suspect, Destiny, reportedly posed as a female native doctor and claimed to possess spiritual powers to help the victim gain wealth.

Convinced by the false promises, the victim allegedly made several payments to Destiny for supposed spiritual services before realizing he had been deceived.

In response to the incident, Barrister Oni Isibor submitted a petition to the NSCDC on behalf of the victim, requesting an investigation. Following this, NSCDC operatives utilized advanced technology and intelligence-driven methods to locate and apprehend the three suspects.

The commandant stated that the suspects have reportedly confessed to the crimes and are expected to face charges in court once the investigation is complete.
