Ogun police smash robbery gang, arrest two suspects, recover 3 pistols, 18 cartridges

Ogun State Police Arrest Two Suspected Armed Robbers

Operatives from the Anti-Robbery Team of the Ogun State Police Command have apprehended two individuals alleged to be involved in a series of armed robberies. The suspects, identified as 46-year-old Adeyinka Onakomaya and 48-year-old Olayiwola Kehinde, were taken into custody during a follow-up operation that also yielded three locally made pistols and 18 live cartridges.

Police Public Relations Officer DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi announced the arrests in a statement on Wednesday, noting that the operation followed months of intelligence-gathering prompted by the recovery of a stolen red Toyota Matrix in April 2026. This vehicle was linked to a robbery incident documented earlier that month, which spurred detectives to widen their investigation.

Babaseyi reported that Onakomaya was located in the Babaode area along Idiroko Road in Ogun State, while Kehinde was apprehended in the Command area of Lagos State. Preliminary investigations suggested that the two men, along with other gang members, orchestrated the April robbery and are connected to several violent vehicle thefts in the Ota, Iju, Babaode, and Atan regions of Ogun State.

“Upon their arrest, a thorough search led to the recovery of three locally made pistols and 18 live cartridges,” Babaseyi stated. During questioning, both suspects reportedly admitted their involvement in multiple armed robbery incidents within the state.

Authorities are actively pursuing other members of the gang who may still be at large, with the aim of securing additional arrests for prosecution. The Commissioner of Police, CP Bode Ojajuni, praised the operatives for their persistence and operational effectiveness, emphasizing that the police are committed to resolving criminal cases thoroughly.

“The recovery of the firearms and the arrest of key syndicate members demonstrate our dedication to incomplete investigations,” Ojajuni remarked. He also urged the public to assist law enforcement by reporting suspicious activities, reinforcing the police’s commitment to dismantling armed robbery networks and enhancing safety within Ogun State.
