Osun APC campaign train turns deadly as truck kills one, leaves seven injured

A campaign procession organized by the All Progressives Congress (APC) in support of its governorship candidate for the upcoming election in Osun State ended in tragedy on Wednesday. A truck crashed into participants in Ede, resulting in the death of one individual and injuries to seven others.
The deceased has been identified as AbdulRasaq Ahmed. The injured were transported to local hospitals for treatment following the incident, which occurred near the Oke Gada area of the town.
Campaign officials stated that the procession was part of mobilization efforts for Bola Oyebamiji, the party’s governorship candidate. Remi Omowaiye, chairman of the Media and Publicity Committee for the Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji Campaign Committee, confirmed the casualty figures and noted that one of the injured individuals was in critical condition.
“One person was killed in the accident. Seven others were injured, including one victim who is critically injured,” Omowaiye said.
An eyewitness, who chose to remain anonymous, reported that traffic management measures were in place prior to the incident and called for a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash. According to the witness, officials from the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) had directed vehicles to use one lane of the road, while campaign participants occupied the other.
“It was a sad incident that could have been avoided. The FRSC coordinator had earlier organized the roadway to ensure safety during the campaign,” the witness stated. “However, the truck driver entered the lane where we were walking and struck members of the procession.”
In the aftermath of the incident, Benjamin Adereti, the running mate of the APC governorship candidate, visited the family of the deceased to offer condolences. He also urged security agencies to investigate the incident’s circumstances.
“I call on security agencies in Osun and across Nigeria to conduct a thorough investigation into the immediate and remote causes of this incident,” Adereti said. “I express my sympathy to the family of AbdulRasaq Ahmed during this difficult time. Losing a child is an unimaginable pain.”
