Edo State Governor Senator Monday Okpebholo reported an encouraging voter turnout during the local government elections held on Saturday.

Accredited election observers confirmed that voting proceeded peacefully and in an orderly manner across the state.

Governor Okpebholo cast his ballot at Ward 2, Udomi Primary School, in the Esan Central Local Government Area, where electoral officials and security personnel were present as voting began early in the day. He arrived at the polling unit around 10:24 a.m. and joined the queue, ultimately casting his vote at 10:40 a.m.

Following his voting, the governor engaged with stakeholders and spoke briefly with journalists covering the event. He praised voters for their orderly behavior and noted that reports from various regions indicated a smooth election process.

“This election is very peaceful and it is going smoothly based on the feedback we are getting from the field,” he said. “The turnout is very high. This is a demonstration of grassroots democracy. It shows that our people are interested in choosing those who will administer the affairs of their local governments.”

The governor expressed optimism that a winner would emerge following the completion of voting, and he urged residents to maintain peaceful conduct throughout the election process while awaiting the official results from the Edo State Independent Electoral Commission (EDSIEC).
