Lagos Police Arrest Suspect with Human Body Part, Weapons
LAGOS — Police operatives from the Lagos State Police Command have arrested a 21-year-old man, identified as Samson Onilewaji, after he was found in possession of a suspected human body part, firearms, axes, and items believed to be stolen during recent robbery incidents.
Onilewaji was apprehended during a routine stop-and-search operation along the Lekki-Epe Expressway. Authorities intercepted an unregistered commercial shuttle bus carrying six individuals.
According to a statement from the command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Adebisi, a search of the vehicle and its occupants uncovered a suspected human right hand, two locally made pistols, a live cartridge, two axes, a Point of Sale (POS) terminal, and five Automated Teller Machine (ATM) cards.
Adebisi stated that Onilewaji confessed to robbing three individuals of their belongings, including the retrieved POS terminal and ATM cards. The police are working to identify and contact the victims to return their property.
“An investigation is ongoing to ascertain the identity of the owner of the suspected human hand, the circumstances surrounding its possession, and its intended use,” Adebisi noted. She added that efforts are being intensified to identify and apprehend any associates of the suspect.
Onilewaji is expected to face charges in court once the investigation is complete. Commissioner of Police Tijani Olaiwola Fatai emphasized the command’s commitment to tackling violent crimes and other criminal activities throughout the state.
