Police arrest 79 suspects, recover weapons, drugs in Kano


KANO, Nigeria — The Kano State Police Command has announced the arrest of 79 suspects in connection with recent security operations that targeted the Takutaba celebration in the state. The operations also led to the recovery of dangerous weapons and illicit drugs.

The Takutaba celebration, held on September 1, proceeded peacefully due to a series of coordinated and intelligence-driven security measures implemented prior to and during the festivities.

Kano State Commissioner of Police Ibrahim Adamu Bakori stated that the operations involved the command’s tactical units, including the Anti-Daba, Anti-Kidnapping, and VCRU units, along with personnel from several local police divisions, including Ungogo and Sharada. These efforts aimed to ensure a safe environment for the celebration.

CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, the spokesperson for the state police command, confirmed that the suspects were detained for various alleged offenses, although specific details regarding these offenses were not disclosed.

According to the police statement, the recovery of dangerous weapons and illicit drugs was part of the operations, and the suspects remain under investigation. They will be charged in court upon completion of the investigation.

Commissioner Bakori praised residents for their peaceful conduct and cooperation with law enforcement throughout the celebration period.
