Bauchi Police Arrest Four Over Deadly Farm Dispute
Bauchi State Police have arrested four individuals in connection with a fatal altercation stemming from a farm dispute in Kumba Village, Sama District of the Burra Emirate in Ningi Local Government Area.
The incident occurred around 2:40 p.m. on Saturday, July 26, 2026, and reportedly involved a disagreement between two farmers over the disposal of weeds on farmland. According to preliminary investigations, the conflict began when 47-year-old Yakubu Mai-Duna allegedly discarded weeds from his property onto 40-year-old Kabiru Yusuf’s land.
The Bauchi State Police Command noted that the dispute escalated into a physical confrontation involving both men and their children. During the altercation, Kabiru Yusuf and his three sons—25-year-old Abdulrazak, 20-year-old Safiyanu, and 15-year-old Salisu—are alleged to have assaulted Mai-Duna and another local resident, Usman Gagare, 48, who attempted to intervene.
Police officers from the Burra Divisional headquarters responded quickly to a distress call, apprehending the suspects and transporting the injured parties to the Primary Health Care Centre in Yada-Gungume for medical care.
Despite efforts to revive him, Yakubu Mai-Duna succumbed to his injuries, while Usman Gagare was treated and later discharged.
Authorities confirmed that the suspects are under investigation for criminal conspiracy, causing grievous bodily harm, and culpable homicide. The case is set to be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCIID) in Bauchi for further exploration and legal action.
Bauchi’s Commissioner of Police, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, emphasized the importance of conflict resolution through peaceful means. “We urge members of the public to embrace dialogue and lawful channels in resolving disputes and to refrain from taking the law into their own hands,” he stated.
The police commissioner reiterated the command’s commitment to ensuring the safety and security of residents across Bauchi State, assuring citizens that anyone found guilty will face prosecution in accordance with the law.
The Police Command also called on the public to remain law-abiding and to report any criminal activities to appropriate authorities.
