Police arrest suspect in murder of nursing student in Anambra

The Anambra State Police Command announced the arrest of Kosisochukwu Edward Ibekwe, 26, in connection with the murder of Vivian Chilaka, a 23-year-old nursing student. Chilaka was found dead in her hostel in Alor, Idemili South Local Government Area, on June 14, 2026. Her death sparked significant public concern.
Prior to Ibekwe’s arrest, the landlord of the deceased was taken into custody; however, authorities later released him following new developments in the investigation.
According to a statement from SP Tochukwu Ikenga, spokesperson for the Anambra State Police Command, Ibekwe was apprehended on September 4, 2026, based on credible information received by the police.
Ikenga stated that preliminary investigations indicated Ibekwe allegedly accessed the hostel by climbing over the fence using a ladder, reportedly intending to sexually assault Chilaka. A struggle reportedly ensued during which Ibekwe allegedly stabbed her with a knife, resulting in her death.
The suspect has also allegedly provided information linking him to other similar incidents in the community. These claims are under thorough investigation by authorities.
The police emphasized that the landlord, previously suspected, has now been cleared of any involvement, urging the public to disregard earlier suspicions regarding his connection to the case.
