Armed Robbery in Etung Local Government Area Leads to Suspect’s Arrest
ETUNG, Cross River State — A 36-year-old man, Amachi Victor, was the victim of an armed robbery early on September 17, 2026, in Effraya village. The assailant allegedly stole $5,000 from Victor during the attack, which occurred around 1:45 a.m.
Law enforcement authorities have arrested Ushie Joseph, a suspected member of a local vigilante group, in connection with the incident. According to Assistant Superintendent of Police Eitokpah Sunday Akata, preliminary investigations revealed that Joseph allegedly shot Victor with a locally fabricated pistol during the robbery.
“The victim was immediately rushed to a hospital in Ikom, where he is currently receiving medical care and is reported to be responding to treatment,” Akata stated.
Police detectives have been active in their investigation, visiting both the scene of the incident and the hospital. Akata noted that while Victor reported the loss of $5,000, this claim is still under investigation and will require thorough examination of evidence and adherence to legal protocols.
Following intelligence reports, police operatives tracked down Joseph to a hideout, where he was apprehended. In addition to the arrest, officers recovered a firearm believed to have been used in the robbery, which has been secured as evidence.
