Sokoto State Police Arrest Suspected Kidnappers, Rescue Abducted Child

The Sokoto State Police Command has apprehended two individuals suspected of kidnapping in separate operations, including the rescue of a 10-year-old boy who was allegedly abducted in the region.

One of the suspects, identified as Abdullahi Buba, also known as “Osho,” is believed to be affiliated with a notorious kidnapping syndicate active in various areas of Sokoto State. According to the police spokesperson, DSP Ahmad Rufai, Buba was arrested on August 8 during a raid on a suspected criminal hideout in Tudun Doki Village, located in the Gwadabawa Local Government Area. This operation was conducted around 2 p.m. based on credible intelligence.

Initial investigations suggest that Buba was involved in multiple kidnappings and collecting illegal levies from communities within Gwadabawa, Kware, and Gada Local Government Areas. The police indicated that he is currently assisting in efforts to locate other members of the syndicate who remain at large.

In a related operation, police successfully rescued 10-year-old Muhammad Sufiyanu after reports of his disappearance from Gidan Madi Town in the Tangaza Local Government Area. His uncle, Sani Ibrahim, filed a report at the Gidan Madi Police Station on August 11.

Investigators from the Gidan Madi Division intercepted two individuals on a motorcycle around 11 p.m. that same night. Upon being challenged by the officers, the suspects fled, leaving behind a concealed sack. Upon inspection, police found the boy inside the sack, alive and responsive. He was subsequently transported to Gidan Madi General Hospital for treatment and has since been discharged.

Muhammad told investigators that one of the suspects had lured him into a room, injected him with a sedative, and placed him into the sack. Police have since arrested one suspect, who has reportedly confessed to the crime. Crime scene investigators have also been deployed to assess the area.

Ongoing investigations aim to gather more information regarding both incidents. Commissioner of Police Hayatu Hassan Shaffa praised the officers involved in the operations and encouraged residents to continue providing timely, credible information to security agencies. He reiterated the command’s commitment to ensuring the safety and security of lives and property throughout Sokoto State.
