Jigawa State Police Arrest Suspected Vandals, Thieves, and Cattle Rustler

JIGAWA, Nigeria — The Jigawa State Police Command has reported significant operational successes through the arrest of individuals suspected of vandalism, theft, and cattle rustling during a series of intelligence-led operations across the state.

SP Shisu Lawan Adam, the police spokesperson, made the announcement in a statement issued to DAILY POST on Thursday. The operations, conducted on July 8, resulted in the recovery of a variety of stolen items, including electric cable wires, a PlayStation 5 console, two plasma television sets, and three cows believed to be stolen.

In one operation, authorities apprehended three individuals—Aminu Mohammed, 17; Abdullahi Mustapha, 17; and Sani Umar, 18—who are linked to the vandalism of electric cables reportedly removed from behind a hotel in Dutse metropolis. Investigations have shown that some of these suspects acted as receivers of the stolen property.

Separately, police from the Dutse Division detained Suleiman Muhammad, a 23-year-old resident of Mariri Quarters in Kano State, after he was found in possession of suspected stolen items, including the PlayStation 5 and two plasma TVs valued at approximately N2.5 million. The rightful owners have been identified and their property returned on bond, while Muhammad faces court charges pending further investigation.

Additionally, operatives from the Guri Division, in collaboration with local vigilantes, apprehended a suspected cattle rustler who was found with three stolen cows concealed on his property. The cows have been returned to their legitimate owner, and investigations are ongoing to identify other members of the suspected cattle-rustling group.

CP Haruna A. Yahaya, the State Commissioner of Police, praised the officers for their professionalism and dedication. He also thanked the public for providing valuable information that contributed to the arrests. Yahaya urged residents to remain vigilant and continue to report any suspicious activities to local police.
