Police Bust Suspected Cattle Theft Syndicate in Ogun State
Sagamu, Ogun State – Operatives from the Sagamu Division of the Ogun State Police Command have dismantled a suspected cattle theft syndicate following an operation in the Maskoli area of the local government, recovering six stolen cows in the process.
Authorities arrested two male suspects, identified as Abiodun Kamilu, 35, and Adesanya Segun, 37. The operation also resulted in the seizure of a blue Nissan Cabster, believed to be the operational vehicle used by the syndicate.
Police Public Relations Officer DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi confirmed the arrests to DAILY POST on Tuesday. Babaseyi stated that the breakthrough came after a distress call was received on Saturday, alerting authorities to a theft at a cow yard in the Maskoli area, where seven cows were reported stolen.
In response to the call, police operatives were promptly mobilized, conducting coordinated patrols along potential exit routes. “Acting on credible information, the operatives intercepted suspicious vehicles along the Sagamu–Ijebu-Ode Expressway,” Babaseyi said.
Their intervention thwarted the alleged theft, leading to the arrests and the recovery of six of the seven stolen cows, as well as the operational vehicle that was abandoned during the suspects’ attempted escape.
Babaseyi assured that investigations are ongoing to apprehend additional members of the syndicate, recover the remaining stolen cow, and ensure prosecution of all individuals involved in the crime. He urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities or individuals to assist law enforcement efforts.
