Lagos Police Cite Mechanical Failure in Mushin Explosion
LAGOS — The Lagos Police Command announced Thursday that an investigation into the recent explosion in the Mushin area determined that the incident was caused by the failure of a pressurized mechanical component, rather than an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) or any criminal activity.
In a statement, the police ruled out terrorism, sabotage, and the use of explosives in connection with the explosion. Forensic and technical analyses found no evidence of explosive materials, detonators, initiation systems, or other characteristics typical of explosive incidents.
“The investigation has conclusively established that the incident was not caused by an IED, terrorist activity, or any form of criminal use of explosives,” police officials said.
The statement further clarified that the explosion resulted from a catastrophic failure of a mechanical component located outside the vehicle involved.
